Ice Rinks
It may seem a little crazy to suggest that it is possible to have an ice rink in your backyard. However, a backyard ice skating rink is exactly what a lot of people have! If you are a huge fan of hockey or figure skating, or if you have a family member who is an athlete, backyard ice skating rinks are a great idea.
Ice rinks are very expensive to build and maintain, so keep that in mind when you are deciding whether or not to build one in your backyard. The ice rink you build should have a special purpose. It's probably not a great idea financially to put in an ice hockey rink if you have not intention of using it.
Backyard ice rinks can be made by qualified contractors and will take several months to a year to build. Ice rink construction costs are significant, as are the costs for ice rink floor repairs. A back yard ice rink will of course be an outdoor ice rink, unless you want to put up a building around it. Many serious athletes have a private indoor home ice rink for their practices.
Once the idea of a rink is discussed at home, synthetic ice rink material can be discussed. There are some ice rinks that are made of synthetic materials. These are a little easier to maintain and do not require constant freezing temperatures so the ice will not melt. However, if you have a professional athlete in your home, they may not be able to train on synthetic materials.
If you don't want the ice rink in your home, you can look into ice rinks for sale in your area. If you want to purchase an ice rink, you can use it for both private and public purposes. Since ice skating rinks & instruction go hand in hand, you can hire someone to teach skating classes or hockey clubs. The benefits of owning ice rinks that are available to the public are numerous, not the least of which being your ability to earn some money on your investment.
If you have a piece of property with a large body of water on it, you can turn that into an ice rink in the winter. However, you need to be sure that the ice on the rink is completely frozen before anyone goes out on it. Otherwise, someone could be seriously injured or killed falling through the ice.
