Badminton

When you are looking for a fun, energetic game for your backyard, badminton is a great option. As long as you have enough room to set up a makeshift badminton court and can afford the necessary badminton equipment, you will have no problem making badminton a part of your summer backyard activities.

The history of badminton goes all the way back to ancient Greece and Egypt. The game gained popularity and eventually migrated to India and England. Now, Canada, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Europe and the United States participate in badminton as an Olympic sport. Badminton history has made it a popular sport played by most people at one time or another in almost every country.

The equipment needed for badminton is a little more expensive and complex than the equipment used for other typical backyard games. Badminton rackets are the most important part of the game. The badminton racquets are smaller and lighter weight than tennis rackets because of the size and weight of the shuttlecock. Badminton drills call for each player to hit the shuttlecock over a net, but because of the design of the shuttlecock, the rackets don't need to be heavy. In fact, if the rackets were heavier, badminton shots would not work well. The shuttlecock is a small rubber tip with feathers or plastic netting on the back that lets it fly rather than fall as a ball does. For the net, you will need badminton poles or posts to support the net itself. Most badminton kits that are available through major retailers will have the poles and net included, along with the shuttlecock and rackets.

The rules of badminton are similar to those of tennis. Badminton rules state that each opponent hits the shuttlecock only once in order to send it over the net. Once it reaches the other side of the net, the hitter's opponent sends the shuttlecock back over the net. The rally ends when the shuttlecock falls on the ground. There are different badminton techniques used to throw off an opponent and score.

Badminton coaching at Stafford facilities is very popular, especially because of the popularity of badminton as an Olympic sport. Badminton + Wolverhampton go hand in hand as the University of Wolverhampton in England is very famous for their badminton competitions. The Olympics has made this sport very popular with professional athletes and with many university students in the US and in the United Kingdom.
